SOAP is for more than laundry and dishes
We use the S.O.A.P. method of daily Bible journaling developed by Pastor Wayne Cordeiro at New Hope O'ahu. He tells us to ask ourselves one question: How will I be different because of what I've just read?
So, you ask, exactly how do you use this special S.O.A.P.? Is it a way to clean up our act so Jesus can be okay with us? Not at all! However, the more time we spend reading the Bible, the more we will want to change and grow. Basically, S.O.A.P. is an acronym that stands for Scripture, Observation, Application and Prayer. Simple. |
How does it work?
It's quite simple. When you sit for your daily quiet time, read the Bible as you normally would with one simple difference: Underline or make note of any verses that jump out at you with special significance. This is the basis for diving deeper and using S.O.A.P.
Scripture: Write out the verse or verses that you underlined in your reading time.
Observation: What did you observe about the scripture that struck you? This can be one sentence or a whole book.
Application: How can you apply the observation so that it affects your life today? Ask yourself the One Question - How will I be different because of what I've just read?
Prayer: Write out a prayer to God based on what you just learned and ask him to help you apply this truth in your life.
That's all there is to it! Please join us as we do daily devotions ~
